Best Gemini scraper APIs: Gemini app answers vs the Gemini API

Measuring what the Gemini app tells its users, with the sources it cites, requires collecting answers from the app. Google’s Gemini API, even grounded on Google Search, returns the answer to your call with your settings, which is a different measurement. Gemini scraper APIs differ on whether they return structured sources, which countries they support, what else they parse (places, tables, media), and how they bill.

Vendor facts come from each vendor’s own pages, linked and checked 2026-09-17. Re-check prices before you buy.

Why Gemini app and Gemini API answers differ

Google’s grounding guide describes a grounded response containing the search queries the model executed, URL citations tied to character ranges in the answer, and an HTML snippet of search suggestions whose display is governed by the Gemini API terms. That suits building an application, but it does not measure the Gemini app:

  1. You choose the model and configuration. The API answer depends on the model version, system instructions and generation settings you send; app users send none of those.
  2. The app decides presentation. Which sources appear, in which order, grouped under which inline citation, and whether a place card appears are product decisions in the app. The API returns citations for your call.
  3. Location works differently. The grounding page checked does not describe a location parameter.
  4. Billing counts a different unit. Per Google’s pricing page, Gemini 2.5 Flash and Pro bill per grounded prompt after 1,500 free requests a day ($35 per 1,000), and Gemini 3 models per search request after 5,000 free a month ($14 per 1,000). With Gemini 3 one prompt can run several searches, so cost per prompt varies.

Use the API when you are building on Gemini, and a scraper when you need to know what Gemini tells people about your category. The provider APIs comparison sets the two side by side.

The options

DataForSEO Gemini LLM Scraper

DataForSEO’s Gemini LLM Scraper live advanced endpoint takes a keyword (up to 2,000 characters), a location (location_name, location_code or location_coordinate) and a language. The response contains markdown, sources with title, domain, URL and publication data, and typed items: gemini_text, gemini_table and gemini_images, each with rank_group and rank_absolute.

Pricing (checked 2026-09-17, AI Optimization API): $0.0012 per results page in the standard queue (up to 45 minutes), $0.0024 priority (up to 5 minutes), $0.004 live (up to 90 seconds). The AI optimization page lists a $50 minimum top-up and credits that never expire.

It has the lowest list price, coordinate-level location, and tables and images as typed items. The cheapest tier is a queue, the SERP-style item model needs mapping, and the scraper covers ChatGPT and Gemini only.

Fits SEO platforms on DataForSEO that want Gemini at minimum unit cost.

Bright Data Gemini scraper

Bright Data’s Gemini scraper page lists output fields including prompt, answer HTML, answer text, links attached, citations, country and index. The AI scrapers docs note two constraints: European countries are not available for Gemini, and Gemini has no web_search control, so whether it searches is Gemini’s decision and prompt phrasing may influence it.

Pricing (checked 2026-09-17, pricing): 5K records a month free, $1.50 per 1K pay as you go, Scale $499 a month with 384,000 records, $1.30 per 1K beyond. Only successful records are billed.

The unit price is low, with bulk jobs and delivery to storage and webhooks. There are no European markets for Gemini, and schemas differ by engine.

Fits bulk collection for the US and other non-European markets.

SearchApi Gemini API

SearchApi’s Gemini API uses engine=gemini and, per its page, returns answers from the Gemini web app. It returns text blocks (paragraphs, headers, lists, tables, code), markdown, reference links with title, snippet, link and favicon, inline images and YouTube videos, and typed weather and finance cards, with location geo-targeting.

Pricing (checked 2026-09-17): 100 free requests; Developer $40 a month for 10,000 searches, Production $100 a month for 35,000, down to $1 per 1K at the top tier (pricing).

Block parsing is detailed and the per-search price is flat. No place cards are listed, and plans are monthly commitments.

Fits content and research teams that want Gemini’s formatted output, including tables and media.

Oxylabs Gemini source

The Oxylabs Gemini target takes source: "gemini", a prompt, geo_location and parse: true, and the docs describe the parsed response as including the plain-text and Markdown answers. The page does not describe a sources array, so citation analysis means parsing links out of the Markdown yourself.

Pricing (checked 2026-09-17, pricing): free trial up to 2,000 results; Micro $49 a month for up to 98,000 results.

Fits existing Oxylabs customers who need Gemini answer text.

Apify Gemini Search Scraper

Apify’s own Gemini Search Scraper returns the answer text, cited sources with title and URL, and the query, from $3.00 per 1,000 searches per event. Apify’s free plan includes $5 of credit a month.

Fits prototypes, one-off studies and no-code workflows.

AnswerLine

POST /v1/monitor/gemini takes a prompt, a required country, an optional US state, and include flags for markdown, html and rawResponse.

curl -X POST https://api.answerline.dev/v1/monitor/gemini \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $API_KEY" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{
    "prompt": "Which e-bike brands are most reliable for commuting?",
    "country": "DE",
    "include": { "markdown": true }
  }'

Under result, per the API reference:

A Gemini task costs 4 credits async and 6 synchronous, with no add-ons. The free tier is 500 credits a month without a card; plan prices are on /pricing. Failed requests are not charged.

It returns structured sources, citation pills and place cards for any supported country, including European markets, and US states, with the same request conventions as its other seven engines and async batches of up to 500 with webhooks and idempotency keys. It has no search-query, table or media fields for Gemini; DataForSEO and SearchApi document tables and images as structured items.

Fits visibility products that compare Gemini with ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google AI surfaces per market, especially in local and travel categories.

Building it yourself

Gemini’s answers vary by market, and the interface is Google’s to change. A DIY collector needs per-market collection, a parser for the answer, sources and cards, and ongoing maintenance. Build vs buy itemizes the work.

Selection criteria

  1. App or API. Measuring visibility means the app; building features means the API.
  2. Structured sources. If you report citation share, require a sources array rather than links extracted from Markdown.
  3. Markets. Check that your countries are supported; European coverage varies by vendor.
  4. Blocks you need. Place cards for local and travel; tables and media for content analysis.
  5. Latency and price. Queues cost less than live calls.
  6. One contract or several. If you also track ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google AI Mode, count the mapping work per extra vendor.
  7. Billing on failure. Prefer success-only charges and idempotent retries.

Questions to ask a vendor before signing

  1. Does the response come from the Gemini app or from a model API? Get the answer in writing.
  2. Which countries return answers, and which fail? Ask for the list.
  3. Are sources returned in display order, with inline grouping? Ask for a sample response for a prompt in your category.
  4. What happens when Gemini shows no sources? An empty array and a parse failure should look different.
  5. How are failures billed and retried? Check whether a timeout is charged and whether a retry can double-count a run.
  6. How much notice is given of schema changes? A renamed field breaks dashboards without an error.

Run the same ten prompts through two shortlisted vendors for a week and compare the sources side by side; that sample shows more than a feature table.

Cost example

200 prompts, two markets, daily for 30 days: 12,000 Gemini answers a month. List prices checked 2026-09-17, before discounts:

Option Billing Monthly cost for 12,000 answers
DataForSEO Gemini LLM Scraper, standard $0.0012 per results page $14.40 (live: $48.00); $50 minimum top-up
Bright Data, pay as you go $1.50 per 1K records $18.00 (non-European markets only)
Apify Gemini Search Scraper from $3.00 per 1K $36.00 plus any plan fee beyond the $5 credit
Oxylabs Micro $49/month, up to 98,000 results $49.00
SearchApi 12,000 exceeds Developer’s 10,000; Production $100/month for 35,000 $100.00
Gemini API, Gemini 3 grounding (not the app answer) 5,000 free/month, then $14 per 1K search requests $98.00 if each prompt runs exactly one search, plus tokens; more if it runs several
AnswerLine 4 credits per async task 48,000 credits; compare with plan allowances on /pricing

Beyond unit price, check whether the vendor covers your markets, returns the fields your metrics need, and how much mapping code you will maintain. AI monitoring cost planning sizes the full program.

A weekly Gemini run on AnswerLine

Three European markets, submitted as one batch:

import os, datetime, requests

API = "https://api.answerline.dev"
HEADERS = {"Authorization": f"Bearer {os.environ['API_KEY']}"}
year, wk, _ = datetime.date.today().isocalendar()
week = f"{year}-W{wk:02d}"

prompts = ["most reliable e-bike brands for commuting", "best e-bike for hills under 3000 euros"]
markets = ["DE", "FR", "NL"]

tasks = [
    {
        "taskType": "GEMINI",
        "payload": {"prompt": p, "country": m},
        "idempotencyKey": f"ebike-{i}-{m}-{week}",
        "webhook": {"url": "https://example.com/hooks/gemini"},
    }
    for i, p in enumerate(prompts)
    for m in markets
]

r = requests.post(f"{API}/v1/async/task/batch", json=tasks, headers=HEADERS, timeout=30)
r.raise_for_status()
body = r.json()
print(body["summary"])
for item in body["results"]:
    if not item["success"]:
        print("rejected", item["index"], item["error"]["code"])

When a task finishes, the webhook receives the task JSON. For a COMPLETED task, response.result.sources and response.result.citationPills hold the citations and response.result.places the cards. A week-based idempotency key stops a resubmitted batch from running a market twice in the same week. See webhooks and verifying signatures.

Reading Gemini data

Gemini in a multi-engine program

Gemini is usually tracked with Google AI Mode and AI Overviews, which sit in the same ecosystem but surface different answers and sources, and with ChatGPT and Perplexity. If that is the plan, choose Gemini collection with the other engines in mind:

  1. List the engines for the next twelve months.
  2. Check each candidate vendor against the full list. A Gemini-only source still needs a second contract for AI Mode and a third for Perplexity.
  3. Define one normalized record (engine, prompt, market, run time, answer text, ordered sources, brand mentions, cards) and see how much code each vendor needs to fill it.
  4. Run a two-week pilot on a small prompt set across all engines before committing to volume.

Gemini fields and code in Python and TypeScript are on the Gemini engine page and in the Gemini monitoring tutorial.

Questions

Does Google offer an API for Gemini app answers?

Google's developer offering is the Gemini API, which runs the model on your own prompts and can ground them with Google Search. It returns your call's answer, not the answer the Gemini app shows a user, so measuring the app requires collecting from the app itself.

What does grounding with Google Search cost in the Gemini API?

Per Google's pricing page checked on 2026-09-17, Gemini 2.5 Flash and Pro include 1,500 grounded requests per day free, then $35 per 1,000 grounded prompts. Gemini 3 models include 5,000 free search requests per month shared across models, then $14 per 1,000 requests. Token costs are separate.

Which Gemini scraper APIs return sources?

Among the vendors checked on 2026-09-17, DataForSEO's Gemini LLM Scraper, Bright Data's Gemini scraper, SearchApi's Gemini API, Apify's Gemini Search Scraper and AnswerLine document cited sources. Oxylabs' Gemini docs describe plain-text and Markdown answers.

Can I scrape Gemini answers for European countries?

It depends on the vendor. Bright Data's AI scrapers documentation says its Gemini scraper does not support European countries. AnswerLine takes any supported country code for Gemini, plus a US state.

How many credits does a Gemini request cost on AnswerLine?

4 credits for an async task and 6 for a synchronous call. The markdown, html and rawResponse flags add nothing.

Try it on your own prompts

500 free credits a month, no card. One POST returns the answer, sources and citations as JSON.
