Best SERP APIs in 2026 for SEO platforms and data teams
For an SEO platform or data team, choosing a SERP API comes down to three questions. What does one parsed Google results page cost at your monthly volume? Does the vendor return the SERP features you report on, such as AI Overview, local pack, ads and People Also Ask? Can it deliver tens of thousands of queued searches without you writing a retry layer? This comparison covers ten vendors on those questions, using only what each publishes on its own site, checked on 2026-09-17. Everything assumes Google web search unless stated.
Comparison table
Prices are list prices from each vendor’s pricing page, checked 2026-09-17. “Entry price” is the cheapest paid option that includes Google web search. Where a vendor does not publish a fact, the cell says so.

Normalizing “price per 1,000 searches”
Vendors price in four different units, and the table only lines up once you convert:
- Per search (SerpApi, SearchApi, Zenserp): one request is one results page. The per-1,000 price is plan price divided by included searches.
- Per SERP with modifiers (DataForSEO): the base price covers 10 results; more depth, search operators or the async AI Overview multiply or add to it.
- Per credit with a per-target multiplier (Scrape.do, Serper, ScraperAPI, ScrapingBee): one Google request consumes a fixed number of credits. Scrape.do documents 10 credits per Google search, so the Hobby plan’s 250,000 credits are 25,000 searches.
- Per event (Apify): a scraped page is one event, a captured AI Overview is another, and each run has a small start fee.
Prices at 10k, 100k and 1M searches a month, using the plan you would buy at each volume, are in the cheapest SERP API breakdown.
Vendor by vendor
SerpApi
SerpApi has the widest catalogue here: its engine directory lists over a hundred APIs, from Google verticals to Bing Copilot, Amazon and app stores. AI Overview comes back as text_blocks (paragraph, heading, list, table and other types) with references carrying title, link, snippet and source (AI Overview docs). The pricing page states that “only successful searches are counted” and that cached searches are free, with a one-hour cache (Search API docs). It runs a hosted MCP server (serpapi.com/mcp) and, from the Production plan up, offers a “U.S. Legal Shield”.
It is among the more expensive per search at low and mid volume: $25 per 1,000 on Starter, $10 on Production, $7.25 on Searcher, $3.75 on Cloud 1M. Hourly throughput is capped at 20% of plan volume for plans under a million searches. When Google needs a second request to load the AI Overview, SerpApi returns a page_token that expires within minutes, and its docs do not say whether that follow-up counts as a search. Webhooks are not documented.
Fits teams that need many engines and verticals behind one integration and weigh breadth and legal coverage above unit price.
DataForSEO
DataForSEO publishes the lowest per-SERP price for Google organic among the per-request vendors here: $0.60 per 1,000 in the standard queue, $1.20 priority, $2.00 live (organic pricing). Billing is pay as you go with a $50 minimum deposit, and funds are returned when a request fails. The task model is built for bulk: up to 100 tasks per POST, with results pushed to a postback_url or announced with a pingback_url. The same balance buys keyword, backlink and on-page data, a separate AI Mode SERP endpoint ($1.20 per 1,000 standard), an LLM Scraper for ChatGPT and Gemini, and there is an open-source MCP server.
The cheap price is the standard queue, which the pricing page lists at “5 minutes on average”; live results cost more than three times as much. Modifiers add up: depth is billed per 10 results, search operators multiply the price by five, and load_async_ai_overview adds one base price. The API has its own vocabulary (location codes, task IDs, “advanced” and “regular” results), which takes longer to learn than a single GET.
Fits SEO platforms running large scheduled rank-tracking jobs that can wait minutes for results and want other SEO datasets on the same account.
SearchApi
SearchApi’s monthly plans run from $4 per 1,000 searches on Developer down to $1 on Octo 5M, and the pricing page states “you won’t be billed for failed requests”. Coverage includes assistant surfaces (ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Bing Copilot) next to Google verticals. AI Overview arrives inline with text_blocks and reference_links, or through a dedicated google_ai_overview engine that also returns markdown (docs). Geo targeting goes down to coordinates. It offers a hosted MCP server and describes up to $2M of legal coverage on Production and above.
Usage is capped at 20% of plan credits per hour. The AI Overview follow-up token expires in under a minute. Async requests and webhooks are not documented, so bulk jobs mean running your own worker pool inside the hourly cap. Prices for the assistant engines were not published on the pages checked.
Fits teams that want broad Google vertical coverage on a GET-style API at a lower per-search price, with traffic spread evenly over the day.
Serper
Serper sells prepaid packs from $1.00 down to $0.30 per 1,000 queries, with default rate limits of 50 queries per second on the smallest pack and 300 on the largest (serper.dev). Credits are deducted only for successful responses, results are not cached, and the free allowance of 2,500 queries is enough to evaluate it. It is a common search tool in LLM agent frameworks.
Credits expire six months after purchase, so the $0.30 rate only holds if you spend 12.5 million queries in that window. Public pages list Google verticals only, with country and language as the documented geo controls; AI Overview, city-level targeting, async delivery and webhooks are not documented. The response is leaner than a full SERP API’s, which suits agents better than feature-level rank tracking.
Fits agents, enrichment jobs and prototypes that need fast organic results at the lowest unit price and do not depend on SERP features.
Bright Data
Bright Data’s pricing page lists “195 countries”, city-level targeting, “no limit to the number of concurrent requests” and billing only for successful requests. Output can be parsed JSON (brd_json=1) or JSON wrapping raw HTML. AI Overview is requested with brd_ai_overview=2, which its docs say adds latency (query parameters). The free tier is 5K requests a month.
At $1.50 per 1,000 pay as you go, or $499 a month for 380K requests on Scale, it is mid-range. Its async mode can take “up to 8 hours” at peak according to its docs (async requests), so it does not replace live calls when freshness matters. Requests can be sent through a proxy endpoint with zone credentials, which is flexible but less direct than a REST call returning one JSON document. The pages checked do not list the AI Overview JSON field names or a separate price for it. ChatGPT, Perplexity and the other assistants are separate “AI scraper” products with per-record pricing.
Fits data teams already using Bright Data for other collection, or that need many countries and cities at high concurrency.
Oxylabs
Oxylabs treats Google as one target of a general Web Scraper API: geo_location accepts country, city, coordinates or uule, results can be parsed, and there are three integration methods, realtime, push-pull with a callback URL, and a proxy endpoint (Google search docs). AI Overviews come back as an ai_overviews array with answer_text, bullet_list, source_panel and references (source, url) when you set render: "html" and parse: true (AI Overviews docs). A batch endpoint accepts up to 5,000 queries with a callback_url (push-pull docs), and the same API has ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google AI Mode sources.
Google costs $1.00 per 1,000 results without JavaScript rendering on Micro and $1.35 with it. AI Overviews require rendering, so budget at the rendered rate. Plans are monthly commitments from $49, which covers 49,000 unrendered Google results. The pricing page bills 2xx and 4xx responses and exempts only 5xx and 6xx, so malformed requests cost money.
Fits teams that scrape Google alongside e-commerce and other sites and want one scraping vendor with callbacks for bulk work.
Scrape.do
At 10 credits per Google search, Scrape.do’s Hobby plan ($29, 250,000 credits) works out to about $1.16 per 1,000 searches and Advanced ($699, 10 million credits) to $0.70 (pricing, Google docs). It charges only for successful responses. AI Overview is returned in ai_overview with text_blocks and references; when Google defers it, a session_key fetches it for 5 credits within 90 seconds. It also has AI Mode (10 credits), ChatGPT and Gemini scrapers (25 credits each), and an async API with webhooks.
Concurrency is plan-bound (10 on Hobby, 200 on Advanced) and the async API has its own smaller pool. The Google product is newer than the SERP specialists’ and its documentation recently changed paths. No MCP server was listed on its site.
Fits cost-sensitive teams that want parsed Google plus AI Overview and some assistant coverage on a monthly plan, with webhooks.
Zenserp
Zenserp has per-search plans from $2.00 per 1,000 on Small down to $0.90 on Enterprise at 1,000,000 searches, bills only successful responses, states guidance of up to 400 concurrent connections, and has a batch endpoint that posts results to a webhook_url (API docs). Annual plans are 20% cheaper.
Its AI Overview status is contradictory: the pricing page lists “AI Overview Access”, while the documentation menu lists AI Search as “Coming Soon” and the API reference has no AI Overview field. Batches require Medium or above. The free tier is 50 requests.
Fits classic rank tracking where organic positions, maps and shopping matter and AI Overview does not.
Apify
Apify’s Google Search Results Scraper is a hosted actor priced per event: $2.50 per 1,000 result pages on the Starter tier and $1.80 on Business, with an AI Overview capture add-on and add-ons for AI Mode, ChatGPT, Copilot, Gemini and Perplexity. Runs can be scheduled, results exported in several formats or pushed by webhook, and Apify runs a hosted MCP server. Standalone AI Overviews and AI Mode actors are also published.
Pricing has two layers: a platform plan ($19, $199 or $999 a month, each including that much prepaid usage) and per-event prices that depend on the plan’s discount tier. The actor model is batch-oriented rather than a per-query synchronous API. Geo inputs are country, language and a raw uule.
Fits teams already on Apify, or low-volume projects that want scheduling, storage and exports without building a pipeline.
AnswerLine
AnswerLine returns structured JSON from Google Search (with AI Overview), Google AI Mode, Google News, ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Copilot and Grok, documented in one OpenAPI reference. Google results and assistant answers share one credit balance and one response style. The Google response has organicResults, peopleAlsoAsk, localResults, ads, shoppingCards, knowledgeGraph, relatedSearches and, with include.aioverview, an aioverview object with text, optional markdown, sources, citationPills and relatedLinks. Async tasks cost the base price, batches take up to 500 tasks, idempotency keys prevent duplicates, and results can be delivered by signed webhook. A failed request is not charged (credits). There is a hosted MCP server, a TypeScript SDK on npm, and LangChain, n8n and Zapier integrations.
It covers fewer search engines than the broad SERP catalogues: no Bing, Yandex, Baidu, Maps, Scholar or shopping verticals as separate endpoints. Google depth goes to 10 pages, with each page after the first charged. Credits are monthly and do not roll over.
Fits products that report Google rankings and AI assistant answers side by side, such as AI-visibility tools, agencies and brand-monitoring teams.
Selection criteria
The first two usually eliminate half the list.
- Surfaces you sell. List the SERP features and engines your customers see in your product. If AI Overview citations are a column in your report, drop vendors that do not document them. If you need Bing, Baidu or app stores, you need a broad catalogue.
- Latency budget. Interactive lookups need live requests; a nightly rank run does not, and queued modes are usually cheaper or have more capacity.
- Volume shape. A steady 100k searches a month suits a subscription. Spiky or seasonal volume suits pay as you go or prepaid credits, as long as the expiry window (six months at Serper) matches your usage.
- Throughput caps. Convert the cap into your daily job. With a 20%-of-plan hourly cap, a 100,000-search plan cannot run all 100,000 in one hour; concurrency caps bound how fast a synchronous batch finishes.
- Billing on failure. “Successful” can mean HTTP 200 only, or anything that is not a 5xx. Retries on a vendor that bills 4xx can cost more than a higher list price.
- Geo precision. Local SEO needs city or coordinate targeting, not just a country. Check that the parameter is documented for the endpoint you use.
- Bulk delivery. Webhooks or postbacks remove polling. Without them, budget engineering time for a worker pool, retries and deduplication (sync, async and webhooks).
- Response stability. Ask how field changes are announced. A documented schema with additive-only changes protects your parsers.
Cost example
A rank tracker checks 2,000 keywords daily in one market, top 10 results only: about 60,000 searches a month. Prices from the vendor pages above, checked 2026-09-17, no add-ons.
| Vendor | Plan you would buy | Monthly cost |
|---|---|---|
| SerpApi | Searcher ($725, 100,000 searches); Big Data covers only 30,000 | $725 |
| SearchApi | BigData ($250, 100,000 searches); Production covers 35,000 | $250 |
| DataForSEO | Standard queue, 60,000 × $0.0006 | $36 |
| DataForSEO | Live mode, 60,000 × $0.002 | $120 |
| Serper | 500k-credit pack ($375) lasts about 8 months, but credits expire at 6, so 360,000 used | $62.50 per month of usage |
| Bright Data | Pay as you go, 60,000 × $1.50 / 1,000 | $90 |
| Scrape.do | Pro ($99, 1,250,000 credits = 125,000 searches); Hobby covers 25,000 | $99 |
| Oxylabs | Starter ($99, $0.90 per 1,000 without JS = 110,000 results); Micro covers 49,000 | $99 |
| Zenserp | Medium ($149.99, 100,000 searches) | $149.99 |
| AnswerLine | 60,000 async tasks × 3 credits = 180,000 credits | See pricing |
Adding AI Overview to every keyword changes the numbers:
- DataForSEO adds one base price per SERP with
load_async_ai_overview, doubling the standard-queue figure to $72. - Scrape.do includes a complete overview at no extra cost, but a deferred one costs 5 more credits per follow-up.
- SerpApi and SearchApi may need a follow-up request with a short-lived token; neither pricing page states whether it is billed, so test on your keyword set.
- AnswerLine adds 2 credits per request with
include.aioverview: 5 credits per task, 300,000 credits a month.
Price the exact request you will send, with its add-ons, at your volume before comparing list prices.
Pitfalls when switching vendors
- Position semantics differ. Some vendors count ads or SERP features in positions; others count organic results only. Re-baseline historical rankings when you switch.
- Results and pages are different units. A price per 1,000 results and a price per 1,000 pages only compare once you know how many results a page returns at your depth setting.
- Follow-up tokens expire. AI Overview tokens that last one to four minutes break queue designs that fetch the follow-up later.
- Cache hits can be stale. A free cached result may be up to an hour old: fine for rank tracking, not for a breaking-news query.

Questions
What is a SERP API?
A SERP API runs a search on an engine such as Google and returns the results page as structured JSON, so you do not maintain your own collection and parsing. Most also offer the raw HTML.
Which SERP API is cheapest per 1,000 Google searches?
On list prices checked 2026-09-17, DataForSEO's standard queue is $0.60 per 1,000 SERPs and Serper's largest credit pack is $0.30 per 1,000 queries. DataForSEO's standard queue averages about five minutes per result, and Serper credits expire after six months, so compare at your own monthly volume and latency needs.
Do SERP APIs charge for failed requests?
SerpApi, SearchApi, Serper, DataForSEO, Bright Data, Scrape.do, Zenserp and AnswerLine state they bill only successful requests. Oxylabs exempts failures on its side (5xx and 6xx codes) but bills 2xx and 4xx responses.
Which SERP APIs return Google AI Overview content?
SerpApi, SearchApi, DataForSEO, Bright Data, Oxylabs, Scrape.do, Apify and AnswerLine document AI Overview extraction. Some return it inline, some need a follow-up request with a short-lived token, and some charge an add-on.
Do I need async requests and webhooks?
For scheduled keyword sets in the tens of thousands, yes: queued tasks with a callback avoid holding connections open and writing your own retry layer. For interactive lookups a synchronous call is simpler.
Can one API cover both Google results and AI assistants?
Several list both. SearchApi, DataForSEO, Scrape.do, Oxylabs, Apify and AnswerLine each document Google results alongside at least one assistant such as ChatGPT or Gemini; which assistants are covered, and how they are priced, differs by vendor.
